A temperature logger is an electronic device that records ambient or product temperature at set intervals during storage or transport, providing an auditable record of cold-chain conditions for buyers, insurers and regulatory authorities.
In trade practice
Loggers are placed inside reefer containers or vehicles at the start of a journey and retrieved on arrival; some transmit data in real time via cellular or satellite links. The read-out must show the agreed temperature was maintained throughout; any excursion is flagged for assessment. Buyers commonly specify the logger brand, recording interval and placement position in their logistics requirements. A frequent mistake is placing the logger near the cooling unit rather than within the cargo mass, which can give a misleadingly favourable reading.
In a specification
Contracts or logistics briefs should specify the required logger type, recording interval, placement instructions and the format in which data must be submitted to the buyer on delivery.
