Material structures are selected based on required oxygen, moisture and aroma barrier performance, with multilayer laminates common for frozen and dried products. Suppliers must provide a declaration of compliance confirming food-contact suitability of each film layer. Seal integrity is validated during production, as poor seals are a leading cause of intake rejection for frozen goods. Retail packs must also carry all labelling required under EU food information rules.

Specifications state film structure, thickness, seal strength, barrier values and the food-contact regulation each layer must satisfy, along with any print or labelling requirements.
