Field of vision labelling is the requirement under Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 that certain mandatory particulars, including the food name, net quantity and alcoholic strength where applicable, appear within the same field of vision so a consumer can read them without rotating the pack.
In trade practice
During artwork approval, QA teams check that the food name, net quantity and, where relevant, alcoholic strength are all visible from a single viewing angle. A common error is placing the net quantity on a side panel while the food name sits on the front, which fails the requirement. Retailers and private-label buyers typically include a field-of-vision compliance checklist in their artwork sign-off process, and non-compliant artwork is returned for revision before print approval.
In a specification
A product specification or artwork brief should state which particulars must appear in the principal field of vision and confirm that the layout has been reviewed against Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 before final approval.
