Mandatory label particulars are the specific information items that Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 requires to appear on prepacked food sold in the EU, including the food name, ingredients list, allergen emphasis, net quantity, date marking, storage conditions, origin where required, and the nutrition declaration.
In trade practice
Buyers conducting labelling compliance checks verify that each particular is present, legible, in the correct minimum font size and in the language of the member state of sale. Common errors on imported Ukrainian products include missing or incorrect country of origin statements, allergens not emphasised within the ingredients list, and nutrition declarations that use non-permitted formats. The food business operator placing the product on the market is legally responsible for label accuracy, even where the label was designed by a supplier. Competent authorities can order withdrawal of non-compliant products without a safety concern being present.
In a specification
Labelling specifications in private-label contracts list each mandatory particular, the required language or languages, minimum character height and the approval process before print sign-off.
