Traceability is the ability to track a product one step back and one step forward through the supply chain, as required by EU Regulation (EC) 178/2002. In practice it links field or apiary, processing lot, packing batch and customer delivery, enabling rapid and precise recall or withdrawal when a safety issue arises.
