Plant Protection Products

Letter

Plant protection products are regulated substances, including fungicides, insecticides and herbicides, applied to crops to control pests, diseases and weeds, with their use governed by authorisation requirements, pre-harvest intervals and maximum residue levels enforced at import.

In trade practice

EU import controls require that food consignments comply with maximum residue levels set under Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, and official border checks may include residue testing. Ukrainian suppliers must apply only authorised products and observe pre-harvest intervals, documenting applications in field records available for audit. Buyers sourcing under organic certification must verify that no prohibited substances were used, as residue findings above permitted levels can lead to consignment rejection or market withdrawal. Laboratories issue residue test reports that should be reviewed against the applicable EU limits before shipment.

In a specification

Product specifications and supplier approval questionnaires typically require confirmation that plant protection products were applied in accordance with national authorisations and that residue test results comply with the maximum levels in Regulation (EC) No 396/2005.
