CHED

Letter

CHED is the Common Health Entry Document, an electronic record completed in TRACES NT for consignments subject to official controls at EU Border Control Posts, capturing pre-notification, check results and the authority’s entry decision.

In trade practice

Importers or their agents submit the CHED in TRACES NT before the consignment arrives, triggering the Border Control Post to plan documentary, identity and physical checks. The document is updated at each stage, and the final decision field determines whether goods may proceed to customs clearance. A common error is submitting incomplete or mismatched commodity codes, which can cause the CHED to be rejected and the consignment detained. The completed CHED must be retained as part of the importer’s official controls record.

In a specification

Purchase contracts for EU-bound food typically require the supplier to provide all documents needed to support CHED completion, including a valid health certificate and accurate commodity descriptions matching the CHED fields.
