Logistics Route

Ukraine → Berlin (Germany) — Reefer Road

The main German lane, and the one where buyer documentation requirements are heaviest.

Route Overview

In short: The Ukraine to Berlin reefer road route runs from Ukrainian cold stores through Poland on the A2 axis to German distribution centres, with onward reach to Hamburg, Hanover and the Ruhr.

Route overview

The corridor connects Ukrainian loading hubs with Germany via Poland. It is the standard entry route for consignments destined for German retail distribution centres, wholesale markets and processing buyers. Onward connections to Hamburg, Hanover and the Ruhr area are well established from Berlin-area logistics hubs.

Border crossings and documents

Cargo crosses from Ukraine into Poland at one of the western crossings such as Krakovets–Korczowa or Rava-Ruska–Hrebenne, then continues across the Polish–German border. Required documents include a CMR consignment note, a Ukrainian customs export declaration and an EU import or transit declaration. Fresh plant products may need a phytosanitary certificate, frozen and processed plant products usually do not, and products of animal origin need an official certificate and entry through a designated EU border control post; check the current requirement for each product before loading. All documents must be consistent and complete before the vehicle departs the loading point.

Cold chain and temperature records

Reefer units should be pre-cooled to the required set point before loading begins. Temperature tolerances agreed with the buyer should be stated on the CMR or in an accompanying instruction sheet. Continuous data logger records are expected by most German retail and processing buyers; the logger report should cover the full journey from loading to delivery. Drivers should know how to retrieve and hand over logger data at the point of delivery.

Practical planning

Border waiting time is the main planning variable on this corridor; queue lengths at Ukrainian–Polish crossings fluctuate and should be checked via live border monitoring services or through a local agent. Transit across Poland uses the A2 motorway axis, but roadworks and seasonal traffic should be factored into scheduling. EU driver hours rules apply throughout the Polish and German legs. Delivery-slot booking at German retail DCs is typically mandatory and should be confirmed before the vehicle departs Ukraine.
