A maximum residue limit (MRL) is the highest legally tolerated level of a pesticide residue in or on food, set in the EU by Regulation (EC) 396/2005. MRLs differ per substance and per crop. Exporters must verify that plant protection products used on the crop are authorised and that residues stay below the EU MRL.
