IFS Food standard is a GFSI-benchmarked private certification scheme that audits food manufacturers and private-label packers against food safety, quality management and HACCP requirements, and is widely required by retailers across Germany, France and other EU markets.
In trade practice
Certification is awarded by accredited third-party certification bodies following an announced or unannounced site audit. The scheme uses a scoring system with knock-out requirements for critical non-conformities; failure on any knock-out criterion results in automatic non-certification regardless of overall score. Ukrainian suppliers exporting private-label frozen or dried products to German or French retailers are frequently required to hold a valid IFS Food certificate as a condition of listing. Buyers typically verify certificate status through the IFS database rather than accepting paper copies alone.
In a specification
A retail supply agreement or private-label contract commonly states the required certification scheme by name, the minimum grade or score accepted, and the obligation to notify the buyer immediately if certification is suspended or withdrawn.
