Crinkle Cut

Letter

Crinkle cut is a slicing method using profiled blades to produce a wavy surface on vegetables such as carrots, potatoes and cucumbers, increasing surface area and creating a distinctive appearance valued in retail and food-service products.

In trade practice

Profiled blades must be inspected and replaced on a defined schedule, as blade wear causes the wave profile to flatten and the product to lose its characteristic appearance. Buyers specify the wave pitch and depth in the product specification, and QA teams check conformity visually and by measurement at intake. Crinkle-cut potato and carrot products are common in retail frozen lines where appearance is a key consumer driver.

In a specification

A specification states the wave pitch, wave depth and slice thickness, along with the maximum proportion of pieces with a flattened or irregular profile.
