Sustainability reporting is the structured disclosure of environmental, social and governance performance by companies, increasingly mandated for large EU businesses under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, with effects flowing down to food and agricultural suppliers.
In trade practice
EU buyers subject to mandatory reporting frameworks request emissions data, water-use figures, waste metrics and social-compliance evidence from their upstream suppliers. Ukrainian exporters of frozen fruit, grains or oils may receive questionnaires or be asked to complete platform-based assessments. Suppliers without organised data on energy consumption or labour practices risk being deprioritised. Third-party audits or self-declaration templates are the most common collection mechanisms at supplier level.
In a specification
A supply contract or supplier-approval form may include a sustainability-data clause requiring annual submission of specified environmental and social indicators aligned with the buyer’s reporting framework.
