Beetroot Powder

Letter

Beetroot powder is a dehydrated, milled ingredient produced from raw or cooked beetroot, used as a natural colourant and flavour component in food manufacturing, where colour strength, moisture, nitrate content and microbiology are key quality parameters.

In trade practice

Suppliers dry beetroot by drum or spray methods before milling to a specified particle size; buyers request a certificate of analysis covering colour intensity, moisture, water activity and microbial counts. Nitrate levels are a routine concern given beetroot’s naturally high content, and specifications may reference maximum levels under applicable EU food law. Caking during storage is a common handling issue, so packaging with desiccants and cool, dry warehousing are standard precautions.

In a specification

A purchase specification typically states drying method, mesh size or particle distribution, maximum moisture, colour units by an agreed measurement method, and microbiological limits aligned with EU food safety criteria.
