Hectolitre weight, also called test weight or bulk density, is the mass of grain that fills a 100-litre volume, expressed in kilograms per hectolitre.
In trade practice
It indicates how well filled and sound the kernels are and is a headline parameter in wheat, barley and feed grain contracts. Shrivelled, wet or dirty grain gives a lower value. ISO 7971 describes the methods; results from different apparatus are not directly comparable.
In a specification
Write a minimum in kg/hl and name the apparatus or method.
