Logistics Route

Ukraine to Genoa – Grain, Flour and Meal Sea Route

Black Sea and Mediterranean service from Odesa region ports to the Ligurian coast

Route Overview

The Ukraine to Genoa sea route links Ukrainian grain and meal exporters with northern Italy, one of the largest milling and feed regions of the Mediterranean. Bulk vessels carry wheat, feed barley and sunflower meal; containers carry bagged flour and smaller meal lots. The cargo is ambient, so the risks are moisture, condensation and contamination rather than temperature.

How the route runs

Cargo loads in the Odesa region ports, crosses the Black Sea, passes the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles, and crosses the Mediterranean to the Ligurian coast. Direct bulk vessels take about a week of sailing; container services often tranship at a Mediterranean hub. All distances and times here are estimates, and the security situation in the Black Sea affects insurance and scheduling.

Quality on a sea voyage

Grain and meal shipped warm or damp can sweat and self-heat during the voyage. Record moisture and temperature at loading, keep hatch ventilation in the voyage instructions and, for containers, use liners and avoid stuffing cold cargo into a warm box. Decide in the contract whether quality is final at loading or at discharge and who samples; see how grain is sampled for export.

Documents and controls

The usual set and the Ukrainian export side are in the grain export documentation guide. At Genoa, EU customs and official controls under Regulation (EU) 2017/625 apply. Feed materials need a registered feed business operator in the chain, and food grain and flour must meet the contaminant rules in force. Vorezan does not book freight; this record describes the corridor.
